I got Internet

So I just got to an internet cafe.  This is the first time I've had internet.  I will post more later when I get internet on my computer.  I've been blogging on there (without internet) every few days.  There will be a lot of information in there.  For now...

It is almost 1:30 in the morning and we are getting up and getting ready to go.  I really didn't sleep that much last night, but I guess I'll sleep on the way.  We are checking out at 2 and then we should be on our way to New York by 3 at the latest.  None of the Peace Corps staff is coming with us to the airport, so we are all on our own after this.  Luckily our bags will be checked straight through to Entebbe.  We will need to change in Jo'burg into appropriate clothing, but for now we can wear whatever we want.  We won't be arriving in Uganda until 7:05 PM (Uganda time) Friday February 11th.  That is about 11 AM Eastern time.  I will probably be out of touch for about 2 weeks because we will be on stead fast due to the upcoming national elections in Uganda.  After that I hope to get a cell phone in Kampala.  Until then...

So last night was the beginning of staging.  We had to arrive at the Hilton Garden Inn yesterday and register at 6PM.  I met a lot of other PCVs going with me, including my roommate who apparently has the same last name as me.  A bunch of us ended up going to the hotel restaurant for dinner (the Peace Corps paid of course).  They gave us each $120 just for staging which only lasts until tomorrow.  Today we have stuff going on all day.  We have a session in the morning, then lunch, then we go to a clinic for vaccinations, then we have another session in the afternoon and we are done at 6:30.  We leave tomorrow morning at 2AM for JFK airport and we won't arrive in Entebbe until midday Friday.

So Julie and Jamie threw me a surprise going away party on Saturday night.  Jamie, Jon, Alyssa and I were out shopping all day for things for the Super Bowl party on Sunday and when we got back to Jamie's apartment...SURPRISE!!  It was really nice to see everyone and there were so many people I didn't expect to be there, but I was not really surprised.  I pay way too much attention to every little thing and therefore I'm really hard to surprise.  Besides the fact that I wasn't surprised,  it was a valiant effort and it was loads of fun!

Thanks James and Jules!!  And thanks to everyone who came and helped!
