Portugal (Part 4)

May 4, 2013 10:00 PM—En Route to Madrid

Today was our last day in Lisbon and we had decided to join a tour that was offered by our hostel that took us to Sintra, which is a small town outside the city which also happens to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We started off our tour with the historic city center, which is a really cute, quaint little town. Then we went up on the hill. We were given the option between going to a Moorish castle, a palace or a farm/garden. We decided to go to the Moorish castle. It was a really amazing castle way up on the top of the hill. The day was so perfect for this because it wasn't too hot, but also it wasn't too windy. You could even see all the way back to Lisbon from there.

After seeing the town of Sintra, our tour took us out further to go to the most western point on the European continent. This reminded me a little of Cape Point in South Africa. You could just see the water for miles. It was nothing short of spectacular! After stopping there we drove back to Lisbon and on the way we got to see some of the beaches. It was a shame we didn't have an extra day to go to the beach.

I was really sad to leave Lisbon. We had such a good time there. It was an awesome little city and the hostel we were staying at was so nice and had so many engaging activities. Now we are on the night train to Madrid. Once we get there we are taking the high speed train to Barcelona. So by tomorrow afternoon we will be in Barcelona. I'm excited about going back to Spain, but I definitely want to come back to Portugal at some point, because it definitely didn't disappoint me.
