May 8, 2013 6:10 PM—Geneva

This morning we left Lyon and took the train to Geneva. Our train was a little late but it only takes about 2 hours, so we were here by around 11 AM. We first went to our hotel which is called Hotel Edelweiss. On the inside it kind of looks like a cute country cottage. We were surprisingly able to check into our room immediately.

Once we checked in we went and got lunch at this little sandwich shop/bakery. After eating we walked up to the Palace of Nations, which is one of the headquarters of the United Nations. It was originally the headquarters of the League of Nations. We ended up going inside and getting a tour. It was really interesting getting to see the different conference rooms and art that this huge building housed. It was also nice to get to hear some of the history of the UN.

After we finished there we took a short walk along the water. Geneva is a really pretty town. From the lake you can see up into the Alps, which are covered in snow. There is also this huge fountain in the middle of the lake.

Tonight we are going to get dinner at our hotel (we're hoping for some fondue). Then tomorrow morning Jill and Matt have to leave and I'm moving on to Lucerne. We had a lot of fun, but I only have about another week until my dad comes.
