Paris, France (Part 2)

June 14, 2012 9:30 PM—Paris

This morning we started off the day at the Louvre. We got to see the Mona Lisa as well as many other works of art that are housed there. After we wandered around there for a while we went to the Conciergerie, which is a former palace and prison. In fact it is where they held Marie Antoinette until they took her to the guillotine.

Once we were done exploring the Conciergerie we found a small cafe where we ate lunch. After lunch we went to Notre Dame. Not only did we go inside the church, but we also climbed the bell tower. Unfortunately we couldn't see the huge bell that is up there, but we did get to see many gargoyles. I think the gargoyles themselves may have been my favorite part of Paris.

Our last stop for the day was the Sainte Chapelle which is a medieval chapel that is right next to the Conciergerie. This chapel is well known because it used to hold the relics from the passion of Christ. Unfortunately, those relics went missing at some point, but the church is also very famous for having some of the most stunning stained-glass.

Tomorrow we are off the Normandy. Due to some issues with the train schedule and what we had planned on doing in the next few days, it looks like we are going to rent a car to get around Normandy for two days. Anyway, it's been a busy day and I'm too tired to say anymore, so for now...
